Take advantage of renovation grants to redo your roof!
What roof grants are available in 2026? Since redoing a roof is a major expense, some people tend to postpone it, often until more costly interventions are needed. So even if it represents a significant investment, reroofing can help you save over the long term.
Also keep in mind that a roof in poor condition affects your home’s energy efficiency. This leads to higher costs on your electricity bill or other heating methods, and it also has a negative impact on the environment.
Fortunately, different government and municipal roof grants exist in 2026, providing financial assistance with amounts that vary based on the work performed. Here are some of the roof grants available in 2026 and the related benefits.
What is the rénoclimat grant program?
As its name suggests, the Rénoclimat grant is government assistance that encourages residential renovations, including re-roofing and insulation work, with the goal of increasing your home’s energy efficiency. It is managed by Transition énergétique Québec (TEQ) to encourage energy-efficient renovations, and it is one of the best flat roof grants in 2026.
Financial assistance provided by rénoclimat
First, be aware that the amounts allocated vary from year to year and based on the renovations performed. In 2026, the Rénoclimat roofing grant in Quebec varies depending on whether you improve your roof’s insulation or its airtightness.
For roof insulation, the amount awarded ranges from $50 to $1,500. This amount depends on:
- The percentage of the surface that is insulated
- The insulation value before the work
- The insulation value after the work
For roof airtightness work, you could receive between $400 and $800. Here are the details on the factors taken into account in calculating the grant:
- Achieving the air changes per hour rate recommended in the evaluation report: $400
- Exceeding the recommended air changes per hour rate by 10%: $600
- Exceeding the recommended air changes per hour rate by 20%: $800
Eligibility requirements
To be able to receive this roofing renovation grant for 2026, you must meet certain criteria, including being the owner (individual or business) of a building that is eligible for the grant.
Here are the different types of dwellings eligible for the Rénoclimat program:
- Single-family home (detached, semi-detached or row, mobile home, rooming house, four-season cottage, etc.)
- Duplex or triplex
- Residential building with multiple units with up to 3 stories above ground and a maximum footprint of 600 m²
The dwelling must also meet several criteria. Among others, it must:
- Be located within Quebec
- Be habitable year-round
- Have a building envelope that is in suitable condition for an airtightness test
- Have been built and inhabited for at least 12 months before participating in the program
Have you already benefited from the Rénoclimat program in the past, for example, by performing another type of renovation? Good news: you can participate in the program multiple times.
If your building meets all these criteria, you are likely eligible for the Rénoclimat program. Other conditions also apply, including:
- Having more than 50% of the total area used for residential purposes
- Resting on permanent foundations
- Being supplied with potable water, either from a private source or by the municipality
- Etc.
Ask a Rénoclimat advisor to find out whether your home is eligible.
How the rénoclimat program works
Before receiving a grant for your roof, you must obtain an energy evaluation of your home before starting the work, then a second one once the work has been completed. This is meant to prove the effectiveness of the interventions and the improvement in your home’s energy performance. To achieve this and to get the most from this flat roof grant in 2026, the work must be completed following the best practices and be performed by expert roofers, such as those at Clinique de la toiture FCA.
Note that it is not possible to begin renovations and then apply partway through.
Initial evaluation fees of $150 plus taxes apply. This amount is refundable if you qualify for the grant, with the exception of the taxes. In other words, if you qualify, you will only end up paying $22.46.
If the renovations carried out improved your building’s energy efficiency and all other conditions were met, you will then receive your grant by mail within 10 to 12 weeks after your application is approved.
Eligible work for your roof
Different types of work are eligible for a grant to renovate your roof, under certain conditions.
Roof insulation must cover at least 20% of your home’s total roof area to qualify for a roofing grant. The amount awarded will vary based on the difference between the R-value before and after the work. The greater this difference, the higher the amount awarded. Other eligible work includes:
- Improving airtightness to prevent heat loss and cold air infiltration
- Upgrading one or more ventilation systems
- Replacing one or more skylights with ENERGY STAR certified models
- Etc.
A Rénoclimat-certified evaluator will explain in detail the eligibility conditions and the steps to follow to take advantage of this grant.
Other available grants
The logisvert program from hydro-quebec
Hydro-Québec encourages initiatives aimed at improving energy efficiency and now offers several grants through the LogisVert program, which was launched in the summer of 2023.
Among the grants offered, you could receive a maximum of $1,500 for the insulation and caulking of air leaks in your roof. The calculation tool provided on the program portal will allow you to obtain an estimate of the assistance you might receive.
Municipal programs
Lastly, each municipality offers various initiatives to help homeowners carry out renovations. Programs and available amounts vary from place to place and can even differ by district. We therefore recommend getting information before you start your renovations.
In Montreal, for example, the RénoPlex program offers grants to improve energy performance. For roofs, you could receive:
- $88 per square metre for installing a green roof
- $50 per square metre for reroofing with a white membrane
- $2 per square metre for installing rigid insulation
This can represent meaningful assistance.
Finally, note that it is often sometimes possible to combine several forms of assistance and roofing grants, notably the federal loan, provincial grants, and municipal assistance. This way, you can save significantly on renovation costs.
Keep in mind that any renovation that increases your home’s energy performance is certainly a major expense, but it will let you save thousands of dollars over the coming years in terms of heating and air-conditioning.

Canadian greener homes grants and interest-free loan
Unfortunately, the Canada Greener Homes Grant (CGHG) program is closed to new applications. The deadline to request payment was December 31, 2025.
An interest-free loan was also offered, but it is now also closed to new applications as of October 2, 2025.
Other programs
Some municipalities offer the RénoRégion program, mainly in rural areas and for lower-income households. Éconologis can also provide advice and support for lower-income households, including minor caulking work. As you can see, the importance of a roof in good condition and roofing done by professionals is recognized.
